Parallel to the plite The Underdogs were facing, Ed Ryan was experiencing his own growing pains back in NY. The interest he gained after the Gibson tour had landed him in the studio to record a number of demos for a future release. Unfortunately due to company politics Ed's deal had been shelved.

By 1992 we all needed to re-evaluate ourselves and our direction. The idea was to trim the fat and create a new look, sound and attitude fit for the 90's current alternative music scene. The "new" Underdogs would see some personnel changes, most notably the re-induction of Ed Ryan. With this whole new approach, it wasn't fitting to continue as the Underdogs, so along with this new awareness came the appropriate title... Wide Awake.

Wide Awake was the culmination of lessons learned on tour, in the studio and in our own personal relationships with one another. It was a new band with familiar faces who shared a history together. We focused on our collective strengths and tried putting our selfish needs aside. The music reflected this formula, and soon we created a new sound, different from anything we had ever produced. Most importantly, it crossed over the genres of pop, rock, jam and funk, paving the way for a whole new audience.
